Should Government Leaders in Nigeria Embrace Renewable Energy Technologies?
Lindeman
Although the Federal Ministry of Environment has begun many projects related to electricity after the creation of The Renewable Energy Programme, there’s still a lot more work left to do in terms of policy framework and regulations. The existence of the Federal Ministry of Environment shows that you are concerned with the environment, but more governmental action needs to be taken in order for Nigeria to contribute positively to Goal #7. I acknowledge that renewable energy isn’t the panacea to all of the World’s energy problems. I also recognize that there are limits to renewable energy for example wind and solar energy are reliant on the weather and there are still difficulties with storing their electricity. However, do not let these factors be a deterrent to the many benefits of renewable energy. I encourage a conscious effort of you all not to lose sight of the promotion of efficient electricity technologies, your plan for rural electrification, and an adopting of financing mechanisms for energy efficiency which was also listed in your sustainability plan ("Sustainable Energy For All Action Agenda" 69-94)As the name suggests, renewable energy will never run out which should make it sustainable. Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy will replenish its self naturally, so why not encourage energy technologies that are reliable?
