Should Government Leaders in Nigeria Embrace Renewable Energy Technologies?
Lindeman
With this in mind, I urge you to create and implement governmental policies and frameworks that will promote sustainable energy technologies. Nigeria is rich in both energy sources from fossils fuels and renewable resources; however, with the previously established harmful effects fossil fuels have on our environment and health it is time to direct more attention to renewable energy( "Sustainable Energy For All Action Agenda" 10). In order for these new technologies to prosper and become sustainable there needs to be a welcoming environment with supportive policies, regulations, and investments. In February of 2017, the World Bank released a report, entitled Regulatory Indicators For Sustainable Energy(RISE) that evaluated 111 developed and developing countries in three areas: energy efficiency, energy access, and renewable energy. The goal of the report was to help certain countries that have not begun to increase their citizens’ access to electricity—most notably the ones in sub-Saharan Africa. It also planned to help them discover which areas they needed to improve in when it comes to policy and frameworks that will promote renewable energy(Banerjee et al. 4).
